Shakir ali khan likes shabnam(supriya pathak) who sings in a family get together.Najma fixes the marriage without knowing that her brother (farooque sheikh) is in love with her.Whether farooq sheik marries shabnam? what happened to najma? is the rest of the story. Najma books tickets to hyderabad, and they decide to go find a girl and fix the marriage in 10 days.So Najma,akthar.salim,boss and another friend go on a trip to the hyderabad Baazar to BUY a girl. The movie follows 2 threads, a sweet love between Sarju(farooq sheik) and Shabnam(supriya pathek), the other story is about Najma (smitha patil) trying to settle down in life with her lover Akhtar Hussain(Bharat Kapoor).Salim (Naseeruddin Shah) comes as a well known poet who is in love with najma ,even though she is akthar's woman.Īkhtar Hussain's busisness depends on his boss Shakhir ali khan.shakir who returns from abroad asks him to find a girl for him.He is a old guy who has his own fmaily ( a wife and 3 sons).Akhtar asks najma to help him find a girl in hyderabad.Najma who lives in the boss's house given to akthar says yes as the boss threatens to take the house and business from them, if they dont help him. The movie rips your heart, potraying the condition of por muslim women and how everything is done within the limits of the religion.This movie came out in 1982.The sad thing is that after all these years we still hear news of people from gulf shopping for girls in hyderabad.
This was the first time in the history of Hindi cinema that a music director won both the National Film Award for Best Music Direction (Songs) and the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for the same film.Sagar Sarhadi's Bazaar is a wonderful movie which talks about the state of poor muslim women in hyderabad.While some, like the writer of this film Javed Siddiqui, believed that she was a fictional character created by Mirza Hadi Ruswa, others, like the film's director Muzaffar Ali, believed that she must have existed. Opinion has always been divided on the antecedents of Umrao Jaan's character.Shooting for this film had been temporarily stopped when the granddaughter of Mirza Hadi Ruswa had filed a court case against the filmmakers claiming that "the film would be irksome for the peace of his soul".The role of Khanum Jaan portrayed by Shaukat Kaifi in this film was played by her daughter Shabana Azmi in the 2006 film of the same title.Two other Hindi films have also been based on the same novel - "Mehndi" (1958) and "Umrao Jaan" (2006). This film was based on the novel "Umrao Jaan Ada" (1904) by Mirza Hadi Ruswa.She ended up winning the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for this film. Asha Bhosle was sceptical to start with but was very happy when she heard the end result. A lot of credit for her success in this film is attributed to music director Khayyam who asked Asha Bhosle to sing the songs at a scale lower than her normal. This film helped singer Asha Bhosle take her career to a new high.If this change had not happened, it would have been Lata Mangeshkar singing for Rekha in this film, not Asha Bhosle. It was then that Muzaffar Ali brought Khayyam on board. In fact, Jaidev had already composed a few songs for the film, when differences, ostensibly money-related, developed between the two. Director Muzaffar Ali had initially engaged Jaidev to compose the music for this film.
